The holiday season is upon us. While nature is inviting us to slow down and get more quiet with these colder, shorter days, our schedules may be filling up instead!
The holidays can be a time of joy and a time of overdoing anything and everything - eating, socializing, drinking, traveling, shopping... you name it! We all tend to overindulge a bit this time of year, and this is ok to do once in a while. Ayurveda is all about finding balance.
Here are a few tips for staying grounded and feeling nourished this season:
Claim your inner peace each morning before the busyness of the day takes over. Take just three minutes to practice deep belly breaths or alternate nostril breathing. This sets your nervous system tone for the day.
Try not to graze all day. Let yourself get hungry! Take time eating your main meal.
Sip warm ginger tea with a squeeze of lemon between meals to aid digestion. This stokes your digestive fire, or what we call agni.
Stay active. Take a walk after a meal or between get togethers. This is a nice way to spend time with friends and family too!
Delight in the sensory pleasures of the season...the rich tastes, sweet smells, and warm sights and feels. Give yourself permission to indulge a bit, be flexible and enjoy without guilt.
When we take time to be present and intentional, we tend to make more balancing choices. And when we are discerning as to what we say yes to over the holidays, there is so much to enjoy!
Wishing you and yours healthy and happy holidays!
